terms of use
freewrite is licensed to you under Apple’s standard licence for App Store apps. the subscription renews until you cancel it, and you cancel it through Apple rather than through us.
what you write is yours. we have no copy of it and claim no rights over it.
1. the licence
freewrite is provided under Apple’s standard end user licence agreement, which applies to every app downloaded from the App Store unless the developer supplies its own. we do not, so that agreement governs your use of freewrite and you should read it.
the sections below add the things that agreement does not cover: our subscription, and what happens to your writing.
2. your writing is yours
everything you write in freewrite belongs to you. we claim no ownership, no licence, and no right to use it — which is straightforward for us to promise, since your entries never reach us at all. see the privacy policy for exactly where they live.
3. subscriptions
freewrite is free to download and free to use. an optional subscription unlocks the AI features that read your practice back to you.
- payment is taken by Apple, through your App Store account, at the price shown in the app before you confirm.
- the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before it ends.
- you can cancel at any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. cancelling stops the next renewal; the subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- if a free trial is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- we cannot issue refunds — Apple handles all billing. request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
4. the AI features
the readings, summaries and themes freewrite generates are produced by a language model. they can be wrong, and they are not advice — not medical, not psychological, not professional advice of any kind. treat them as a prompt to think with, which is all they are meant to be.
freewrite is a writing app, not a mental health service. if you are struggling, please talk to someone who can actually help.
5. acceptable use
do not attempt to break, reverse engineer or resell the app. beyond that there is very little to police here — the app is a page and a timer, and nothing you write in it is visible to us or to anyone else.
6. no warranty, and what we are liable for
freewrite is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. we do our best to keep it working and your writing intact, but we cannot guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
keep your own backups of anything you would be upset to lose. your entries live on your device; a lost, wiped or broken phone takes them with it, and we have no copy to restore from.
to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
7. changes and contact
we may update these terms as the app changes; the date at the top says when. these terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
