legal
terms of use
beans is licensed to you under Apple’s standard licence for App Store apps. you buy the app once, and 3D renders are separate credits that never expire.
a render is spent only when a finished model reaches your phone. refunds go through Apple, not us. what you photograph and log is yours.
1. the licence
beans is provided under Apple’s standard end user licence agreement, which applies to every app from the App Store unless the developer supplies its own. we do not, so that agreement governs your use of beans and you should read it. the sections below add what it does not cover: how the purchases work, and how the web lookup and 3D services behave.
2. what you make is yours
your bag photographs, notes and dial-in history belong to you. we claim no ownership of them. by using the lookup or a 3D render you ask us to send the specific things those features need to the services described in the privacy policy, and that is the only permission you give us. you are responsible for having the right to use a picture you send for a render.
3. what you buy
- the lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase that opens beans for good. it is restorable on any device signed in to the same Apple account, from the restore button on the paywall. it comes with one 3D render.
- the welcome offer is a discounted way in, open for a limited time from the first time you see it (currently 48 hours), then gone. it is the same unlock at a lower price, or the unlock with a bundle of renders (three in total) at a price that includes them. the full unlock is offered at its normal price once the offer ends.
- render packs add renders once you own the app. owning the unlock does not by itself leave you a render to spend: the one it includes is used the first time.
prices are shown in the app, in your currency, before you confirm. payment is taken by Apple through your App Store account.
4. renders
- a render is one 3D model of one bag.
- renders never expire. they are credits you bought, and they stay until you use them.
- a render is spent when a finished model is delivered to your phone, not when you ask. a generation that fails, times out or is abandoned costs nothing.
- “redo 3D” spends a render to try again. you are asked first, and if the new attempt fails the earlier model is gone, which the prompt says. the shelf can always show a bag as its photograph instead.
- a render can succeed and still come out looking wrong. the models are made by a third party’s AI and no two attempts are the same. we cannot promise a particular result, and a redo is another render.
- renders are not money, cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash, and are tied to the identifier your phone keeps in its Keychain. a phone set up as new, rather than restored from a backup or transferred, starts with none of them, and we cannot move them across.
5. refunds
we cannot issue refunds. Apple handles all billing, and refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com. if a purchase did not deliver what it said it would, tell us at help@humanmadethings.co.uk too, and we will put right anything that is ours to put right. your rights under consumer law are not affected by these terms.
6. the lookup and the AI
the details the web lookup fills in are found by a language model reading public web pages. they can be wrong, out of date or about a different coffee from the same roaster. the bag in your hand is the authority: check what the form says before you rely on it, and never on a lookup for an allergy, health or caffeine decision.
both the lookup and 3D renders depend on services we do not run. they can be slow, unavailable or changed without notice, and beans keeps working without them.
7. acceptable use
do not reverse engineer the app, run beans on a modified device to get around its checks, or use our server for anything but beans’ own requests. our server answers only to a genuine copy of the app on a genuine iPhone, and may refuse a device that is abusing it.
8. no warranty, and what we are liable for
beans is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. we do our best to keep it working and your data intact, but we cannot guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
your bags and shots live on your phone. a lost, wiped or broken phone takes them with it unless a backup has them, and we have no copy to restore from.
to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. changes and contact
we may update these terms as the app changes; the date at the top says when. they are governed by the law of England and Wales.
